FOUNDATION 4: SELF-SOOTHING & SETTLING ASSISTANCE

Welcome to the last foundation in our 4 Foundations to Healthy Sleep.

Self-soothing, also known as self-settling, is the skill to fall asleep on your own, without any help. It's a strong skill for your baby to develop as they get older - and a saviour for you too. All babies can learn to self-soothe with the right, gentle support. In this lesson Courtney will share her tips on how to teach your baby to fall asleep, and back to sleep, independently. She'll also teach you some techniques to help baby settle to sleep when they need a bit of assistance.

Many babies rely on sleep props or sleep aids to help them fall asleep. There's lots of helpful information in our FAQ section on sleep aids, whether you should consider weaning your baby off theirs and how to phase them out.

NEED MORE SUPPORT?

Having a baby isn't easy and it's common to feel overwhelmed, vulnerable and in need of help and support.

You don't need to feel like you're in this alone. Whether it's more support with your baby's sleep, assistance with feeding or some extra help for you or your partner, we encourage you to reach out to family, your doctor or one of the many support organisations and services for new and expecting parents and carers.
