How should I dress my baby under the Love to Dream™ Swaddles.

Overheating has been linked to SIDS so it is very important to ensure your baby does not overheat. Our products have been designed to eliminate multiple layers of wrapping. The table below provides you with guidelines around how to dress your baby based on the room temperature.

When should I stop swaddling my baby and transition?

Irrespective of which swaddling method you use, you must stop swaddling your baby as soon as he or she starts to show signs of being able to roll over independently. At this time, you must transition your baby out of swaddling into 'arms-free' sleeping. Your baby's arms should not be restricted when they are able to roll over - this advice is the same for any form of swaddling you may be using. Around this time, you baby's startle reflex should have diminished. The Swaddle Up™ Transition Bag/Suit is a great way to prepare your baby for the transition from being swaddled to 'arms-free' independent sleep.

The fit should be snug

A snug fit around the arms and torso helps calm the Moro/Startle Reflex. The neck hole should fit closely and comfortably without being restrictive (you should be able to get 1 to 2 fingers in the neck hole). The neck hole must not be able to pass up and over the baby's mouth. For the best fit, please select the size based on your child's weight, not their height or age.

Which swaddle style is right for my baby’s age and sleep stage?

The Swaddle Up™ Original is best for newborns who need secure swaddling with arms free to self-soothe. When your baby starts showing signs of rolling, usually around 3–4 months, move to the Swaddle Up™ Transition Bag to safely wean from swaddling one arm at a time. Choose your TOG based on room temperature, and size by your baby's weight for the safest, most comfortable fit.

When should I choose a self-soothing?

Self-soothing is a baby's natural ability to settle themselves to sleep, usually by sucking on their hands or fingers. The Swaddle Up™ keeps hands accessible within the garment so this instinct isn't blocked. Better self-soothing means babies resettle more easily overnight without needing a parent to intervene. It's one of the key reasons Swaddle Up™ is trusted by sleep-deprived parents worldwide.

Which swaddle style is right for my baby’s age and sleep stage?

The Arms Up™ position mirrors how babies sleep naturally. Hands stay near the face, ready to self-soothe. The Swaddle Up™ is the only swaddle designed to support this posture, calming the startle reflex while giving babies access to their hands. Choose this if your baby resists traditional swaddles, startle-wakes frequently, or shows a preference for sleeping with arms raised. Available in multiple TOGs and sizes.

When should I choose a TOG?

TOG measures how warm a sleep garment will keep your baby: the higher the number, the warmer. For rooms above 24°C, choose a 0.2 TOG Swaddle Up™. For 21–24°C, go with 1.0 TOG. For cooler nights around 18–21°C, choose 2.5 TOG. Keep a room thermometer handy so you're picking the right TOG every night, not just for the season.

Which swaddle style is right for my baby’s age and sleep stage?

Most parents find 2–3 Swaddle Up™ swaddles the right number: one on your baby, one clean and ready, and a spare for busy nights or unexpected messes. If your baby possets frequently or you prefer washing less often, three is a smarter starting point. It's also worth having two different TOGs on hand if your room temperature shifts across the seasons.

How many Swaddle Up™ swaddles do I need?

We recommend that you purchase at least two Swaddle Up™ swaddles in the appropriate size. If you own two, then one can be in the wash while your baby is wearing the other one. It might even be helpful to consider having a third on hand to use in case of emergencies
