Stage 2: Ready To Roll

Once your baby starts showing signs of rolling over, they’ve reached what we call stage 2 in their development and it’s time to dress them in a Love to Dream™ transition bag or transition suit.

Transition Bag & Suit FAQs

When should I stop swaddling my baby and transition?
Irrespective of which swaddling method you use, you must stop swaddling your baby as soon as he or she starts to show signs of being able to roll over independently. At this time, you must transition your baby out of swaddling into 'arms-free' sleeping. Your baby's arms should not be restricted when they are able to roll over - this advice is the same for any form of swaddling you may be using. Around this time, you baby's startle reflex should have diminished. The Swaddle Up™ Transition Bag/Suit is a great way to prepare your baby for the transition from being swaddled to 'arms-free' independent sleep.
Why Transition Bag/Suit?
As soon as a baby shows signs of rolling, parents must stop swaddling & transition their baby to 'arms-free' sleep. Our Transition Bag or Suit is the simplest solution to transition a baby from being swaddled to 'arms-free' - all while preserving their cherished sleep routine.
What's the easiest way to transition my baby?
If your baby has not shown signs of rolling yet, you can simply allow them to sleep in the Swaddle Up™ Transition Suit until they show signs of trying to roll. Once they show signs of trying to roll over, you must stop swaddling your baby and transition them. Start with one Arms Up wing and one self-soothing SLEEVE on (cuff folded over). After several nights of your baby settling into this routine, remove the Arms Up wing and start bedtime off with both self-soothing SLEEVES zipped on (cuffs folded over). Once your baby has settled into a routine, you can open the cuffs for true arms-free sleep. Some babies transition in a few nights, others can take a few weeks. The Swaddle Up™ Transition Suit with self-soothing SLEEVES is especially helpful for any baby who is having a harder time going from being swaddled to arms-free sleep. Read more here.
What is a TOG?
TOG stands for Thermal Overall Grade and is an industry-recognised measurement for the warmth of garments and bedding. Put simply: The lower the TOG rating, the lighter the fabric. The higher the TOG rating, the warmer the fabric. Love to Dream's temperature-based rating below simplifies the process of choosing the right garments: Products with a Warm Temperature Rating are ideal for Room Temperatures from 24-27°C. Our "Lite" Summer Garments are best suited for this temperature range. Products with a Moderate Temperature Rating are ideal for Room Temperatures from 20-24°C. Our "Moderate" Garments are best suited for this temperature range. Products with a Mild Temperature Rating are ideal for Room Temperatures between 18-24°C. Our “Mild” Garments are best suited for this temperature range. Products with a Cool Temperature Rating are ideal for Room Temperatures between 16-20°C. Our "Warm" Winter Garments are best suited for this temperature range. Products with a Cold Temperature Rating are ideal for Room Temperatures below 16°C. Our "Extra Warm" Winter Garments are best suited for this temperature range.
What size Swaddle Up™ Transition Bag/Suit should I buy?
For best fit result please select your Swaddle Up™ sizing according to your child's weight not their age. The Swaddle Up™ Transition Bag/Suit range is available in three sizes: Medium (Suitable for 6-8.5kg), Large (Suitable for 8.5-11kg) and Extra Large (Suitable for 11-14kg).
How many Swaddle Up™ Transition Bags/Suits should I buy?
We recommend that you purchase at least two in the appropriate size. If you own two, then one can be in the wash while your baby is wearing the other one. It might even be helpful to consider having a third on hand to use in case of emergencies

Transition Bags & Suits

The increased freedom in the transition bag and transition suit allows your little one to make their first independent movements as they settle themselves. This next step of your little one’s sleep journey is made even easier for parents and babies alike with our transition baby sleeping bags and baby sleepsuits. Designed to provide the snug, secure feeling of a swaddle, zip-off wings allow your baby to comfortably transition to arms-free sleep. Stage 2 is recommended for ages 3-12 months, however age is only a guidance. Product suitability will depend on a baby's physiology and development. The care-giver must determine what is suitable.
